NEWTON –
Catawba County Commissioner Barbara Beatty, emphasizing her record of fighting for low taxes and sound fiscal policy, has filed for re-election.
The life-long Republican is seeking her party’s nomination for one of two seats on the Catawba County Board of Commissioners to be filled in the November general election.
“I am grateful to the citizens of Catawba County for trusting me to represent their interests during my tenure on the board,” Beatty said. “If re-elected, I pledge to continue working to keep our county taxes low and create an atmosphere that will spur job growth by building a positive environment for both existing and new businesses.”
She is on the board of trustees of Catawba Valley Medical Center, chairman of the Rural Transportation Advisory Committee, and serves on the Metropolitan Transportation Advisory Committee. Beatty also serves on the Advisory Board of Abernathy Laurels, the board of the NC Association of County Commissioners and is on the taxation/finance and intergovernmental relations steering committees.
She is a member of the NC Local Health Department Accreditation Board. She is a recipient of The Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award, the highest honor the North Carolina bestows on a citizen for outstanding public service.
Beatty chairs the Balls Creek Republican Fish Fry Committee and has served as secretary for the Catawba County GOP and president of the Catawba County Republican Woman’s Club.
A native of Catawba County, she grew up in the Balls Creek area and graduated from Bandys High School. She received an associate degree from Mitchell Junior College and her bachelor of arts degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. Beatty’s career includes serving as merchandise director of the Hickory Crawdads baseball team, cost accountant and internal auditor for Burlington Industries, and sales account manager for B&L Telephone, Mitel, and Active Voice.
She is a resident of Newton.

I pledge that I will use both my experience and energy to continue to work hard to assure that we all have efficient county services available to us, continue to enjoy low taxes, and realize a better employment environment.”
